Swimmers party at Hersey JamboreeSwimming certainly isn’t a low priority at the Hersey Jamboree, but it may run a close second to the fun. Cary-Grove, Jacobs and McHenry swam Saturday at the annual event held at Olympic Pool in Arlington Heights that combines swimming, dancing and loud music. Each of the 12 teams at the meet prepared a short dance/skit that they performed to music before the swimming began. The homecoming court from Hersey acted as the judges. Trojans coach Scott Lattyak said the Jamboree is something that his team looks forward to. He gave the team time to prepare for their performance. “It’s their favorite meet of the year. They really like to plan their dance,” Lattyak said. “They’re having a blast dancing behind the blocks.” The party atmosphere continues after the swimming begins, and the music blares over the loudspeakers continually, except during the start of a race. In the water, Cary-Grove finished sixth with 92 points, Jacobs was ninth with 75 and McHenry had 58 to take 10th. Warren won the meet with 226 points. C-G’s Lauren Curtis placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.20, her best time of the year. Lattyak also was pleased with the performance of Danielle Dalbke, who has been struggling with an illness. “[Dalbke] came back pretty strong,” Lattyak said. “It was definitely her season best.” McHenry’s Kristen Lenard was third in the 500 freestyle (5:40.57) as the only other top-three finisher from the area. Upcoming meets: Crystal Lake Central at Jacobs, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday; Dundee-Crown and Marengo at Woodstock, 4:30 p.m. Thursday; Huntley at Cary-Grove, 4:30 p.m. Friday. |
