Athletes of the week

Dustin Throw

Cary-Grove, jr.

Throw won the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division double dual meet Tuesday at Hickory Nut Grove, covering the 3.1-mile course in 16:24.

Throw won the race by 35 seconds to lead the Trojans to a 24-34 victory against Huntley. C-G lost to Crystal Lake South, 25-36, in that dual.

Throw consistently has been C-G’s top runner this season and usually is near the front of races with the top group.

Sarah Englund

Cary-Grove, jr.

Englund led the Trojans to a sweep of Fox Valley Conference Valley Division dual meets as they finished 6-0 to win the division.

Englund finished first on Tuesday in an FVC Valley double dual meet with Crystal Lake South and Huntley. Englund won in 19:58, four seconds ahead of teammate Talia Duzey.

C-G defeated Huntley (15-50) and South (15-49).

Noteworthy

Champions crowned: This is the first season the FVC has crowned division champions for cross country. In the past, the team that won the FVC Meet was considered the conference champion. A few years ago, dual meets were included in determining the overall champion, but there was only one.

The FVC now decides division champions in each sport. Prairie Ridge’s boys won the FVC Valley with a 6-0 dual record and Crystal Lake Central won the FVC Fox, also at 6-0.

On the girls side, Cary-Grove won the FVC Valley at 6-0 and Central won the FVC Fox, also at 6-0
