The Wolves hoped to make it as a team, but finished eighth in the tough field at the Class 3A Schaumburg Sectional on Saturday at Busse Woods. Wilkins took fifth in 15:14.85, Cowlin was 10th in 15:24.47. The Wolves, who won the Fox Valley Conference title two weeks ago, had 187 points. McHenry finished in ninth place with 240 points. Class 3A Wheaton North Sectional: At St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, William Hennessy of Jacobs took 24th place in 15:37.1, as the Golden Eagles finished in ninth with 221 points. Trevor Obecny led Huntley with a 58th-place finish in 16:06.6, as the Red Raiders took 15th place as a team with 398 points. Dundee-Crown finished in 21st place with 619 points. Oregon Class 1A Sectional: At Oregon Park West, Harvard packed its five scoring runners within 52 seconds of each other and took second place to earn its first team trip to state in school history. Timmy Wiltshire was 15th to lead the Hornets, who had 137 points, one behind sectional champion Ottawa Marquette. Alex Kick (21st), Xavier Alva (30th), Jorge Pichardo (42nd) and Marcelino Perales (50th) were Harvard’s scoring runners. “Our strength is our pack,” Hornets coach Brett Wilhoit said. “Other teams may have those one or two big guys, we have a solid group clumped together.”SFlbGIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Class 3A Wheaton North Sectional: At St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Jacobs’ Lauren Van Vlierbergen was one spot out from qualifying for the state meet as an individual, finishing in 23rd place at 17:58.7, as the Golden Eagles took 11th with 276 points. Kelley Meehleib led Huntley, finishing in 33rd place in 18:31.2. The Red Raiders took 12th with 281 points. Class 3A Schaumburg Sectional: At Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village, Kathie Wollney of Cary-Grove qualifed as an individual for the state meet, finishing in 24th place in 18:38.73. |
