


McHenry girls cruiseMcHENRY – The McHenry girls basketball team outscored Woodstock North in every quarter Friday to pick up a 69-35 win in Fox Valley Conference crossover action. Meghan Mortell led the way for the Warriors (3-4) with a game-high 21 points, and Laura D’Angelo added 13. Sami Ahr led Woodstock North (3-3) with seven points. Dundee-Crown 34, Johnsburg 32: At Carpentersville, Carlin Faulkner drained four three-pointers and scored a game-high 17 points for the Chargers (2-4) in the FVC crossover win. Diamond Williams (10 points) joined her in double digits. Senior Morgan Berge had a team-high 10 points for the Skyhawks (1-6). CL South 34, Hampshire 23: At Crystal Lake, the Gators (2-4) rode a 14-point second-quarter surge to secure the FVC crossover win led by Stephanie Melone’s 12 points. Michelle Dumoulin scored nine for the Whip-Purs (0-3). Grayslake North 59, Jacobs 41: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles were powerless to stop Kendall Detweiler who hit seven three-pointers to set a school record and scored 27 points for the Knights (3-3) in FVC crossover action. Amy Becker (16 points) led the way for Jacobs (0-3). Burlington Central 66, Harvard 47: At Harvard, Karina Villasenor scored 25 points for the Hornets in their Big Northern Conference East Division opener, but Harvard (0-6, 0-1 BNC East) lost to Burlington. Marengo 56, Richmond-Burton 53: At Marengo, the Indians (5-2, 1-0) won their BNC East opener with 16 points from Jessica Villie and 10 points from Kourtney Heitz. Erin Thomas scored 14 points with three three-pointers for the Rockets (5-1, 0-1).
Marmion 54, Marian Central 47: Ross Langlois scored 15 points, but the Hurricanes (1-5, 0-1 Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division) couldn’t catch Marmion. Libertyville 48, CL South 34: At Libertyville, Sam Schumaker and Alex Bartusch had two three-pointers and 10 points apiece, but the Gators lost to Libertyville in non-conference play. Huntley 50, Carmel 42: At Mundelein, Troy Miller had a team-high 14 points in the non-conference win for the Red Raiders (5-0). Johnsburg 58, Antioch 46: At Antioch, Mike Ward scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Skyhawks (2-3) to a non-conference win. Christian Life 80, Alden-Hebron 56: At Rockford, Shane Engelbrecht scored 14 points to lead the Giants in the Northeastern Athletic Conference loss for A-H (0-6, 0-1).
Prairie Ridge 39, Woodstock North 29: At Woodstock, Zach Symon (132 pounds), Marc Kachelmuss (138), Mathew Wilcox (145) and Luke Zegers (182) had pins for the Wolves in the FVC crossover win. Dustin Kroening (160) scored the lone pin for the Thunder. McHenry 30, Grayslake North 21: At Grayslake, Tony Lopez (132) won by major decision, and Ian Olejniczak (195) got a pin to lead the Warriors (8-0, 2-0) to a crossover win. Johnsburg 36, Jacobs 36 (Johnsburg wins on criteria): At Johnsburg, Bobby McKay (126), Brandon Motter (138) and Brandon Boyle (285) secured pins for the Skyhawks, who won on criteria.
National Showcase: At Jamestown, N.Y., Prairie Ridge beat Mount Lebanon, Pa., 7-1. Buck Martin made 17 saves.
