Jakubicek leads C-G past Gators

CARY – Cary-Grove senior Olivia Jakubicek was better than good Friday night.

Jakubicek sank five of her 11 shots from the floor and was 5 for 5 from the free throw line to put up a game-high 15 points. She also recorded seven steals and three rebounds to send the Trojans past Crystal Lake South, 43-25, to keep C-G’s Fox Valley Conference Valley Division record perfect.

Paige Lincicum added 10 points and three assists for Cary-Grove (5-3 overall, 2-0 FVC Valley).

The Gators (2-6, 0-1), trailed 27-11 at the half but matched Cary-Grove point-for-point in the second half. Senior Stephanie Melone and Sara Mickow led the way for South with six points apiece.

Huntley 41, Prairie Ridge 31: At Huntley, Prairie Ridge’s Haleigh Danek led all scorers with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough for the FVC Valley Division victory as three scorers, Abbey Shaw (11 points), Kelsey Seitz (10) and Sam Andrews (10), reached double figures for Huntley (6-2, 2-0).

Marisa Geistbrein added five points and two steals for Prairie Ridge (4-5, 0-2).

Woodstock North 46, Johnsburg 36: At Woodstock, the Thunder picked up their first FVC Fox Division victory behind a 16-point outing from Haylee Nutter. Senior center Ashley Schuld led eight Johnsburg (3-7, 1-1) scorers with 11 points.

Samantha Abbate added 10 points with four field goals for Woodstock North (5-4, 1-1).

Marengo 52, Genoa-Kingston 32: At Genoa, Jessica Villie led the Indians (6-2, 2-0 BNC East) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Molly Richardson added 19 points, including five three-pointers, in a Big Northern Conference East Division win.

North Boone 59, Harvard 22: At Poplar Grove, Randi Blazier (six points) led all Harvard scorers with a 4 for 4 showing from the free throw line, but the Hornets (0-8, 0-2) picked up a BNC East Division loss.

Aurora Christian 50, Marian Central 45 (OT): At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (3-4, 1-1 Suburban Christian Conference) kept Aurora Christian from hitting any three-pointers until Mackenzie Bollinger drilled one at the buzzer to tie the game and force overtime. Susan Piggot scored 14 points and Ellen Koscielniak added 12 for Marian Central.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lakes 48, Richmond-Burton 38: At Richmond, Chris Vlasak downed two three-pointers and matched Adam Kinsella’s nine points with nine of his own, but the Rockets (0-6) picked up the non-conference loss.

Prairie Ridge 57, Grant 34: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves (1-5) made sure Grant came up empty from three-point range and looked to Sean Valentine (20 points, 3 assists), Dan Simak (10) and Steven Ticknor (10) for offensive production in the non-conference win.

Rockford Lutheran 77, Harvard 31: At Harvard, Timmy Linhart put up a team-high 14 points, but Harvard (0-3) couldn’t slow down Rockford Lutheran in the Big Northern Conference crossover loss.

WRESTLING

Jacobs 64, Woodstock North 6: At Algonquin, Austin Ryan (106 pounds), Jacob Orth (113), Michael Ricks (138), Brad Schumacher (152), Jared Mrzlak (170) and Gabe Difecchio (195) all recorded pins for the Golden Eagles (6-4) in their Fox Valley Conference crossover win.

Ruger Walsh (126) and Dustin Kroening (160) each won by decision for the Thunder.
