


Bernhard, D-C nab tourney winELGIN – Dundee-Crown’s Kyle Bernhard put on a long-distance shooting clinic Wednesday afternoon. The senior guard drilled six three-pointers on the way to a game-high 18 points to lead the Chargers past Buffalo Grove, 71-45, at the Elgin Holiday Classic. D-C improved to 2-1 in the tournament. Brandon Rodriguez had 12 points, while Dylan Kissack added 10 for the Chargers (6-5), who play Harlan at 5:15 p.m. today. GIRLS BASKETBALL Mundelein Holiday Classic: At Mundelein, Cary-Grove’s Olivia Jakubicek led a trio of Trojans in double figures, scoring 15 points in a 49-44 loss to Rolling Meadows. Joslyn Nicholson finished with 13 and Katie Barker had 10 for C-G (8-4). The Trojans will play Zion-Benton in the third-place game at 6:30 p.m. today. Northern Illinois Holiday Classic: At Woodstock, Woodstock North stormed out to a 42-5 lead after three quarters against Lakes, then held on for a 48-39 win. Sami Ahr scored 11 points to pace the Thunder (8-6). McHenry outscored Richmond-Burton, 14-8, in the fourth quarter to steal away a 46-44 victory in tournament action at Woodstock. Brittany Avonts finished with 15 points for the Warriors (8-6), who overcame a 5 for 18 effort from the free-throw line. Erin Thomas led the Rockets (9-5) with 12 points. At Woodstock North, Cody Brand broke out with a 22-point performance to push Woodstock past Jefferson, 58-55, in tourney play. Sydney Haulotte scored 15 points for Woodstock (6-8). Crystal Lake South’s Sara Mickow finished with a team-leading 19 points – including a 9 of 10 performance from foul line in the Gators’ 49-47 win against Burlington Central at Woodstock North. Rachel Rasmussen added 12 points for the Gators (5-10). Grayslake North stayed hot by beating Crystal Lake Central, 33-19, in tournament play at McHenry. Kendall Detweiler led the Knights (12-3) with 12 points. Paige Celestin and Maddie Dagley scored five points apiece for the Tigers (8-7).
