Sanders leads D-C to victory

CARPENTERSVILLE – Ali Sanders had a productive week.

The Dundee-Crown senior led the host Chargers girls basketball team in scoring in each of its four games in the Charger Classic Holiday Tournament, capping it off with a 21-point outing against St. Charles North en route to a 48-45 win Thursday.

Carlin Faulkner joined Sanders in double figures with 13 points as D-C (9-6) earned a 13th-place finish.

In the 15th-place game, Johnsburg beat Regina Dominican, 51-43, behind 16 points from Morgan Berge.

Wheaton North Falcon Classic: At Wheaton, Jacobs fell to Schaumburg, 51-30, to finish as runner-up in the tournament’s consolation bracket.

Maggie Hansen led the way with eight points for the Golden Eagles (2-12), and sisters Kelly and Lauren Grady added seven points each.

Alden-Hebron Christmas Tournament: At Hebron, Brooklyn Hilton scored 10 points, but the Giants (3-8) lost to Christian Liberty, 44-39.

A-H will face the Woodstock junior varsity team at 2:30 p.m. today in the tournament’s final round.

Riverside-Brookfield Tournament: At Riverside, McHenry beat Nazareth Academy, 45-33.

Michelle Kelly scored 10 points to lead the Warriors (11-7), who will face Chicago Lane Tech at 5 p.m. today in the third-place game.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Alden-Hebron Christmas Tournament: At Hebron, Shane Engelbrecht scored a game-high 17 points for Alden-Hebron, but the Giants fell to Christian Liberty, 47-40.

WRESTLING

Belvidere Quad: At Belvidere, Huntley (7-4) defeated all of its opponents, topping Belvidere, 58-12, Plainfield East, 45-24, and Rockford East, 44-33.

HOCKEY

St. Edwards Christmas Tournament: At Cleveland, fourth-seeded Prairie Ridge upset third-seeded Chicago St. Rita, 2-1, behind goals from Michael Crepeau and Matt Krammen at the Ohio tournament.

Buck Martin made 21 saves for the Wolves (23-13-4).
