Changes help Johnsburg boys rally past Woodstock in Fox

WOODSTOCK – The right adjustments at the right time made all the difference for the Johnsburg boys basketball team Saturday night.

His team down by eight points to Woodstock in the fourth quarter, Skyhawks coach Mike Toussaint moved senior Mike Ward into the post and made some defensive changes that fueled a breakout rally for a 54-51 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win.

“We did not shoot the ball very well early in the game,” Toussaint said of his team, which clung to a one-point advantage at the half and trailed by six going into the fourth quarter.

Senior Brandon Ridout’s 12 fourth-quarter points didn’t hurt either.

Ward scored 20 points, and Ridout added 18 for the Skyhawks (5-8, 1-0 FVC Fox).

Woodstock’s Jordan Turner led all scorers with 21 points, and Brad Lohr added 17 for the Blue Streaks (4-10, 0-1).

Grayslake North 53, Woodstock North 43: At Woodstock, Sam Schweder drilled three fourth-quarter three-pointers and led all scorers with 20 points, but the Thunder’s late rally wasn’t enough in the FVC Fox loss.

Konner Boron (10 points) joined Schweder in double digits for Woodstock North (4-10, 0-1). A.J. Fish led the Knights (8-5, 1-0) with 15 points.

Huntley 55, McHenry 36: At Huntley, the Red Raiders outscored the Warriors in every quarter, and sophomore Amanze Egekeze led all scorers with 17 points to earn the FVC Valley Division win for Huntley (12-1, 1-0).

Robert Tonyan hit 10 of 12 free throws to pace the Warriors (5-7, 0-1) with 14 points.

St. Francis 72, Marian Central 45: At Wheaton, Ross Langlois scored a team-high 11 points, but the Hurricanes’ defense couldn’t slow down St. Francis’ Brian Spahn (20 points) in the Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division loss. Zach Ricchiuto added nine points for Marian (1-15, 0-4 SCC Blue).
