Knights take control after seesaw 1st half

JOHNSBURG – There were three ties and 12 lead changes in Johnsburg’s boys basketball game against Grayslake North on Tuesday.

Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, they went into halftime trailing and the lead never changed again, as the Knights pulled out a 66-56, Fox Valley Conference Fox Division victory.

Scoring usually is a team effort for the Knights (9-5, 2-0 FVC), and it was no different Tuesday. Senior forward Zack Krupp said he just happened to be the leading scorer with 22.

“On our team we have a couple of guys that can be the leading scorer on any night,” Krupp said. “That’s what we like best about this year. All of our starters have the ability to get points any night and tonight I guess it was just my night.”

Krupp had help from junior guard A.J. Fish, who came off the bench to knock down three three-pointers and finished with 18.

The Knights also hit 19 of 32 free throws, while Johnsburg (5-9, 1-2 FVC) went only 5 for 9 from the line and was left looking for answers.

“I think we have talent that we can compete with any [team in the conference],” Skyhawks coach Mike Toussaint said. “I’m disappointed in our first two games, and we need to buy into what we’re doing and come together as a team.”

Johnsburg was led by junior T.J. Sigmund’s 18 points, but the Skyhawks were plagued by bad shots and turnovers that led to easy points for the Knights, who took a 28-25 lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half.
