Sam Andrews scored 17 points, and Abbey Shaw added 14 for the Red Raiders (11-6 overall, 5-1 FVC Valley) in an impressive 46-35 win against former Valley unbeaten Cary-Grove (11-6, 5-1). Huntley’s win forged a tie atop the division standings. The Red Raiders shot 26 free throws to the Trojans’ 10, with Huntley making 16. The hosts also held C-G to just 15 points in the second half. Paige Lincicum led the Trojans (11-6, 5-1 FVC Valley) with 18 points, while Olivia Jakubicek finished with seven. Jacobs 60, Prairie Ridge 54: At Algonquin, freshman Jennifer Barnec scored 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles (4-15, 1-5) past Prairie Ridge in an FVC Valley win. Haleigh Danek drilled six threes and finished with a game-high 27 points for the Wolves (10-8, 2-5). Richmond Burton 59, Burlington Central 39: At Burlington, Erin Thomas paced the Rockets (12-6, 5-1) with 30 points, going 8 for 9 from the free-throw line and hitting two three-pointers in their Big Northern Conference East Division win. Sam Boettjer added 10 points for R-B. Marengo 63, Genoa-Kingston 36: At Marengo, Jessica Villie had 20 points, 14 rebounds and three steals to lead the Indians to a BNC East victory. Molly Richardson and Amber Fillmore each added nine points for Marengo (13-3, 6-0), which held the Cogs to 14 second-half points. Marian Central 61, Chicago Christian 55: At Palos Heights, the Hurricanes (9-8, 2-3) earned the Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division win behind the hot shooting of Shannon Wuensch. The junior guard scored a game-high 29 points, including four three-pointers. Alden-Hebron 35, Harvard 20: At Hebron, Brooklyn Hilton knocked down 12 of 13 shots from the foul line for a team-high 12 points as the Giants rolled to a non-conference victory. As a team, Alden-Hebron (7-8), which won its fourth in a row, went 17 for 21 from the free-throw line. BOYS BASKETBALL Martin Luther King Tournament: At South Beloit, Harvard celebrated its second win of the season. Dylan Witt scored 16 points and Justin Nolen added 10 to lead the Hornets (2-14 overall, 1-2 tournament) in a 44-27 win against East Dubuque. Harvard split its two games on the second day of the tournament, falling to South Beloit, 66-58. Matt Smith put up 20 for Harvard in the loss, and Dane Miller added 10, including three three-pointers. Hononegah Invitational: At Rockton, Jacobs lost both games of its double-header and starting center Alex Glover on the opening day of the Hononegah Invite. Will Schwerdtmann scored 16 points in the Golden Eagles’ 60-43 loss to Neuqua Valley in the opener. Glover went down with an injury in the fourth quarter and did not play in a 56-47 loss to DeKalb in Game 2. Brad Cleveland led Jacobs (3-12) with 11 points against the Barbs. BOYS BOWLING DeKalb Tournament: At Mardi Gras Lanes, Susan Anthony rolled a 580 series, and Krystal Alt and Becca Czlapinski had 570 apiece as Marengo won the 12-team tournament with 2,787 pins. Alt also finished second in the individual portion of the tourney with a 417 series for the Indians. Lake Zurich Tournament: At Brunswick Zone, Patrick Bailey led Marengo with a 627 series at the 20-team tournament. Dakota Termini added a 601 series for the Indians, who finished 18th with 4,305 pins. BOYS SWIMMING St. Charles East Invitational: At St. Charles, Jacobs’ Alex Reinbrecht won two individual events and swam a leg of two winning relays, as the Golden Eagles took fourth place with 259 points. St. Charles East won the invitational with 362 points. Reinbrecht won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.85 and the 500 freestyle in 4:50.62, and teamed with Josh DeDina, Alex Elston, and Ryne Quinlan to win the 400 medley relay in 3:42.20 and DeDina, Elston, Quinlan and John Jost to win the 800-yard freestyle in 7:22.00. Jefferson Invitational: At Rockford, Cary-Grove won the invitational with 221 points, Woodstock took sixth with 125 points and McHenry finished ninth with 40 points. Michael Hamann won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.39 and the 100 backstroke in 55.43 seconds for C-G, and teamed with Jonathan Curtis, Adam Gaynor and Andrew Brierton to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:24.76. Henry Gantner, Trevor Nomm, Adam Steinken and Morgan Hofmann led Woodstock with a second-place finish in 1:33.02 in the 200 freestyle relay.
