


Hampshire girls 3rd at ByronBYRON – The Hampshire girls basketball team took third Monday at the Byron Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Tournament, finishing 3-1. The Whip-Purs (10-10) defeated Sterling Newman, 40-33, and Byron, 47-36, on the final day of play. Hampshire’s only loss came Saturday against tournament champion Belvidere North, 49-37. Jennifer Dumoulin led Hampshire with 22 points against Newman. Against Bryon, Elizabeth Panzica scored 12, and Michelle Dumoulin added 11. Boys Basketball South Beloit Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament: At South Beloit, Harvard lost twice against Orangeville, 41-39 in the first game and 50-32 in the second. The Hornets (2-16, 1-4 tournament) were led by Timmy Linhart’s nine points, with Dylan Witt and Matt Smith each adding eight, in the first game. Dane Miller’s 11 points led Harvard in Game 2. Hononegah Invitational: At Rockton, Jacobs lost to Auburn, 76-41, and Hononegah, 70-47. Will Schwerdtmann led the Golden Eagles (3-14) in scoring in both games, going for 12 against Auburn and 15 against Hononegah. • Andrew Hansen contributed to this report. |
