Johnsburg football coach Creviston resignsBarry Creviston is confident he will coach football somewhere this fall, but it will not be at Johnsburg. Creviston resigned as the Skyhawks' head coach after three seasons with a 12-18 record. He notified the players Friday at school that he was stepping down. “My wife (Valerie, a physical therapist) has a job opportunity down south (in Illinois),” Creviston said. “I thought this was the best time for me to look for jobs. If I wait until May, I may miss out on a good job.” Creviston previously coached at Jacksonville Routt, where his teams were 42-20 in six seasons. His first year at Johnsburg, the Skyhawks were 8-4 and made the IHSA Class 4A playoff quarterfinals, where they lost to Richmond-Burton. That was Johnsburg’s best playoff result in school history. The past two seasons the Skyhawks were 4-5 and 0-9. Last season was their first winless record since 1994. “This is kind of a blind leap of faith,” Creviston said. “I’ve been coaching 20 years and I haven’t missed out on a job yet. I’ve put some résumés out with schools. I’ll try to find whatever is the right fit for me and my family.” Creviston will finish the year as physical education teacher at Johnsburg. The Skyhawks did not field a sophomore team this season, so while next year may be tough, Creviston thinks there is talent on the way from players in the middle school. “The time here has been wonderful,” he said. “The kids always did everything I asked. I hope the biggest effect I have is what they do 10 years from now. If they do better in life from what they learned with us, that’ll make me more proud than anything.” Creviston thanked Johnsburg’s administration for the opportunity he had to work at the school. |
