Harvard wrestlers wrap up BNC East

RICHMOND– The Harvard wrestling team captured the Big Northern Conference East Division title Thursday, narrowly defeating Richmond-Burton, 30-29, and overwhelming Genoa-Kingston, 79-0.

Tommy Larkin (126 pounds) helped the Hornets secure the win against R-B, recording a pin in 1:35 in the second-to-last match of the meet. Tyler Kramer (145) also had a pin for Harvard, recording his in 3:17.

Garrett Sutton (138) won by technical fall for the Rockets against Harvard, as Jack Dechow (182) and Brett O’Kane (160) both won by major decision.

Tyler Kramer, Brad Lovell (152), Matt Wheeler (160/170) and Nathan Cowan (182/195) each went 2-0 on the day for the Hornets.

R-B defeated Genoa-Kingston, 59-15, as Dechow, O’Kane, Garrett Sutton, Grant Sutton (138), Nick Zelinsky (195/220), and Jake Pauly (285) went 2-0 for the Rockets.

Marengo 54, Woodstock North 30: At Woodstock, Corey Graham (106), Justin Dauphin (152), Jon Goerke (170), Abe LaMontagne (182), and Jon Lesiak (220) won by pin for the Indians in their non-conference win against the Thunder.


GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cary-Grove 50, CL South 34: At Crystal Lake, Olivia Jakubicek led the Trojans with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Paige Lincicum added 11 in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win for C-G (13-8 overall, 7-1 FVC Valley).

Stephanie Melone scored eight points to lead the Gators (9-14, 3-5) with Sara Mickow adding seven.

North Boone 52, Harvard 30: At Harvard, Abby Linhart led the Hornets (0-18, 0-7) with eight points and Randi Blazier had six in their Big Northern Conference East Division loss.


BOYS SWIMMING

Jacobs 108, McHenry 62: At McHenry, Alex Elston and Ryne Quinlan each won two events for the Golden Eagles, with Elston taking the 100-yard butterfly in 53.22 and the 50 freestyle in 22.56 and Quinlan winning the 200 freestyle in 1:53.05 and the 500 freestyle in 5:09.04.

The Warriors were led by their 200 freestyle relay team of Lucas Matthys, Dylan Clohessy, Robert Schwerdtgeger and Joe Peck, which won in 1:33.43.
