


CLC rallies past Johnsburg behind Cane’s 24 pointsCRYSTAL LAKE – Senior Chase Cane scored 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting from the free-throw line Friday, and the Crystal Lake Central boys basketball team rallied for a 56-49 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win against Johnsburg. The Tigers (14-5 overall, 3-3 FVC Fox) trailed by seven points at the half but went on a 20-11 third-quarter run to capture the lead and the win. Senior Mike Ward led Johnsburg (6-12, 2-4) with 16 points. Hampshire 55, Woodstock North 51: At Woodstock, Shane Hernandez scored 16 points, and Tyler Watzlawick added 13 as the Whip-Purs (12-8, 5-2) held on for the FVC Fox win. Konner Boron led Woodstock North (6-14, 1-5) with 12 points including three three-pointers. Dundee-Crown 62, Cary-Grove 38: At Cary, senior Kyle Bernhard scored 24 points, and Brandon Rodriguez added 15 to propel the Chargers (12-6, 5-0) to the FVC Valley win. Ryan Arquette and Dean Lee scored eight points apiece for the Trojans (4-15, 1-4). Aurora Christian 79, Marian Central 56: At Aurora, Ross Langlois had a team-high 21 points in the Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division loss for Marian Central (2-19, 1-7). Alden-Hebron 48, Mooseheart 46: At Mooseheart, Shane Engelbrecht led all scorers with 27 points as the Giants (6-11, 2-5) rallied from a one-point third-quarter deficit for the Northeastern Athletic Conference win. GIRLS BASKETBALL Jacobs 60, Huntley 50: At Algonquin, Huntley’s Lauren Grady scored 17 points, and Jessica Tennant added 14 as the Golden Eagles (5-17, 2-7) picked up the FVC Valley win. Abbey Shaw led the Red Raiders (11-10, 5-4) with 19 points. Hampshire 55, Johnsburg 48: At Johnsburg, Michelle Dumoulin scored 16 points, and Jennifer Dumoulin scored 11 to power the Whip-Purs (13-11, 5-3) to the FVC Fox win. Ashley Schuld scored 17 for the Skyhawks (7-16, 4-5). Richmond-Burton 55, Genoa-Kingston 40: At Genoa, Erin Thomas scored 21 points, and Andrea Fox added 17 as the Rockets (15-6, 7-1) rolled in Big Northern Conference East Division action. Northeastern Athletic Conference Tournament: At Arlington Heights, Sam Beck led all scorers with 13 points en route to Alden-Hebron’s 38-33 win against Christian Liberty Academy in the first round of the tournament. Brook Winkelman added eight points for the Giants (8-12 overall). WRESTLING Richmond-Burton Triangular: The host Rockets earned BNC wins over North Boone, 48-12, and Burlington Central, 33-25. Garrett Sutton (138 pounds), Jack Dechow (182) and Nick Zelinsky (195) each had a pin for R-B. FVC Tournament: At Huntley, Crystal Lake Central (116) leads the team standings after the quarterfinals. Crystal Lake South (107.5), Cary-Grove (100), McHenry (98.5) and Huntley (84) round out the top five. Semifinal and final matches take place today. BOYS SWIMMING Cary-Grove 104, Woodstock co-op 66: At Woodstock, Joe Weber (56.54 seconds) won the 100-yard butterfly, and Jake Betz (1:00.66) won the 100 backstroke to propel the Trojans to an FVC win. Henry Gantner (1:04.53) won in the 100 breaststroke for Woodstock. GIRLS BOWLING FVC Tournament: At Algonquin, Erica Smetters (1,196) recorded the top six-game series of the tournament, supplemented by teammates Ashley Rood (1,144) and Sarah Siska (1,111), who finished third and fourth, respectively, to lead Jacobs (5,399) to a first-place team finish. Krystal McCleavy (918) pushed McHenry (4,356) to finish third. Woodstock (4,307) finished fifth, Huntley (4,293) took sixth, Dundee-Crown (4,277) finished seventh and Johnsburg (3,800) rounded-out the tournament in eighth. BOYS HOCKEY CL South 5, Guerin 3: At Franklin Park, Joey Bower scored two goals for the Gators (17-4-1) and added two assists in a non-conference win.
