HAMPSHIRE – McHenry’s Meghan Mortell used her height to her advantage Friday as the 6-foot senior logged an odd-looking triple-double in the Warriors’ 37-35 win against Hampshire in a Fox Valley Conference placement game. Mortell scored a game-high 19 points, all in the final three quarters, to go with 15 rebounds and 11 blocks for the Warriors (19-11). “Meghan did a nice job tonight,” McHenry coach Scott Morris said, adding that a switch to a high-low offensive set allowed Mortell better opportunities to post-up in the second half. Hampshire trailed by two points at the half and ended the game on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Jenny Dumoulin. She had 10 points, and Michelle Dumoulin scored 11 for the Whip-Purs (15-14). “The kids are really starting to believe in themselves,” Morris said. McHenry finished third in the FVC Valley Division, and Hampshire was third in the FVC Fox. Woodstock North 56, Huntley 43: At Woodstock, Aleecia Braun scored 15 points, and Haylee Nutter added 14 as the Thunder (16-11) overcame a 27-21 halftime deficit in the FVC fourth-place game.
