Prep roundup: Fenton leads PR girls hoops to another win

MUNDELEIN – Brianne Fenton’s biggest contribution didn’t make the box score.

Although she scored two points, Prairie Ridge girls basketball coach Rob Baker credited Fenton with the leadership that brought her team a win over Grant, 44-36, in the Mundelein Tournament on Tuesday.

“Fenton was a great leader on the floor for us,” Baker said of his senior guard. “[Grant] played good defense, and forced us into some mistakes, but we continued to play hard.

Senior center Kailey Aldridge scored a team-high 10 points, and junior forward Alex Neckopulos added nine for the Wolves (2-0 overall).

Barrington 56, Jacobs 41: At Barrington, Payton Berg sank three three-pointers and scored 11 points in the nonconference loss for the Golden Eagles (0-1). Jennifer Barnec and Tiffany Frighetto each added eight points.

McHenry 41, Marengo 38: At Marengo, Brittany Avonts (12 points) and Alissa Rosga (10) led the Warriors (1-0) to a nonconference win after trailing, 19-18, at the half. Jessica Villie scored a game-high 13 points, and Lynsey Hoeske downed a pair of three-pointers and added 10 points for the Indians (0-1).

Huntley 67, Bartlett 29: At Huntley, Sam Andrews downed a trio of three-pointers and made all six of her free throws to lead the Red Raiders (1-0) to a nonconference win.

Jeff Straulin (657) and Joey Kass (634) bowled the high series for the Skyhawks.

Woodstock Co-op 2,765, Marengo 2,712: At Woodstock, Marengo’s Alex Gross bowled the high game (237) and the high series (660), but it was the Woodstock Co-op’s depth that did them in.
