Youel leads CL Central past Harvard

HARVARD – The girls tennis season has ended, but Evelyn Youel’s dominance hasn’t.

On Wednesday, one of Crystal Lake Central’s top tennis players led the girls basketball team to a 54-33 nonconference win over Harvard.

Youel scored a game-high 18 points on 8 for 13 shooting to go with seven rebounds and three steals.

Kelsey Schmitt added 10 points and two assists, and Maddie Helm and Morgan Wozniak added eight points each for the Tigers (1-0), which led, 15-9 at halftime.

Randi Blazier and Abby Linhart scored a team-high nine points apiece, and Sam McCloud scored four points to go with nine rebounds for the Hornets (0-1).

Mundelein Tournament: At Mundelein, Prairie Ridge (3-0) rallied from a 26-22 halftime deficit, led by Sarah LeBeau (17 points) and Kailey Aldridge (13).

Fremd 59, Johnsburg 23: At Palatine, Katie Poczkalski scored five points, and Kayla Toussaint added four, but the Skyhawks (0-1) lost in nonconference play.

Elgin Academy Tournament: At Elgin, Alden-Hebron rolled past Mooseheart in its season opener, 49-6. Brooklyn Hilton scored 18 points, and Marissah Knoll added 9 to lead 13 scorers for the Giants (1-0).
