Ludwig leads Woodstock

BURLINGTON – Sam Ludwig waited until the second half Friday to make her mark for Woodstock.

The senior, held scoreless in the first half, tallied a game-high 16 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a 46-34 victory over Marengo at the Burlington Central Tournament.

Ludwig nailed four three-pointers to lead the way for Woodstock (1-0). Cody Brand added 11 for the Streaks.

Marengo (0-2) was led by Jessica Villie’s 13 points.

Marian Central Tournament: At Woodstock, Shannon Wuensch tallied 20 points to lead Marian Central (2-0) to a 60-47 win over Richmond-Burton. Teammate Brie Baumart added 18 points.

Sam Boettjer led R-B (1-2) with 13 points in the loss. With the win, the Hurricanes move on to Tuesday’s championship game against Belvidere.

Mundelein Tournament: Despite a 15-point output from Marissa Gerbstein, Prairie Ridge lost to Grayslake North 48-32.

Harvard Tournament: Kelsey Schmitt (11 points), Paige Dowell (10) and Morgan Wozniak (11) scored in double figures to help Crystal Lake Central defeat Round Lake, 52-20.

The Tigers’ defense took hold after the first quarter, allowing just 10 Panther points in the final three periods.

Turkey Thriller Tournament: At Johnsburg, Joslyn Nicholson scored 14 points and Olivia Jakubicek added 13 to help pace Cary-Grove to a 52-16 drubbing of Johnsburg in the Lake Zurich-hosted tournament.
