MUNDELEIN – Cary-Grove’s Jason Gregoire did not let a painful index finger on his shooting hand slow him down too much.
The Trojans’ 6-foot-1 sophomore guard sank a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining in overtime as C-G defeated Carmel, 43-42, in its nonconference boys basketball game Wednesday.
Gregoire was injured early and his right finger was swollen. C-G coach Ralph Schuetzle said he thought it might be broken and was not sure if Gregoire would miss time.
“He’s a really tough kid,” Schuetzle said. “I said, ‘How did you shoot?’ ”
Dean Lee led C-G (5-1) with 13 points and Tyler Szydlo tossed in 10.
