PREP ROUNDUP: Jakubicek reaches 1,000-point club; Trojans pick up win

CARY – Cary-Grove girls basketball player Olivia Jakubicek scored her 1,000th career point in a 56-44 win over visiting Buffalo Grove. The senior became just the seventh player in school history to accomplish such a feat.

Jakubicek scored a game-high 23 points to go along with seven steals and five assists in the nonconference win for the Trojans (6-4, 1-1 Valley Division.) Joslyn Nicholson added 13 for the Trojans.

Woodstock North 41, Crystal Lake Central 27: At Crystal Lake, The Thunder were led by Emma Everly who had 11 points behind three 3-pointers and going 2 of 2 from the line. Teammate Samantha Abbate added 7 points to help Woodstock North (6-5, 2-1 Fox Division) pick up its sixth win in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division game.

Evelyn Youel scored a team-high nine points for the Tigers (6-4, 0-2 Fox Division).

Marian Central 57, Alden-Hebron 24: At Woodstock, Alissa Melchionna led all scorers with 12 points for the Hurricanes (6-2) in their non-conference win.

Sparkle Lagerhausen led the Giants (6-3) with 10 points.

Grayslake North 61, Johnsburg 34: At Grayslake, Brittney Thibeaux led the way for the Knights (9-0, 3-0 Fox Division) as she scored 15 points while teammate Joanna Guhl and Emily Dugan added 14 and 12 respectively.

Kayla Toussaint scored 10 points for the Skyhawks (2-8, 1-2 Fox Division).

Grayslake Central 52, Woodstock 42: At Woodstock, the Rams (6-4, 2-0 Fox Division) Carson Sparkman scored 15 points and Morgan Dahlstrom added 12 as they were able to hold off the Blue Streaks (4-6, 1-2 Fox Division) furious 23-point fourth quarter.

Cody Brand and Morgan Kunzie added 13 and 11 respectively for Woodstock.


Cary-Grove 61, Grayslake Central 59: At Grayslake, Dean Lee led all scorers with 22 points and Matt Motzel added 13 for the Trojans (6-2) in a FVC crossover win.

Faith Lutheran 59, Valeo Academy 39: At Crystal Lake, Jake Larson scored 17 points and Andrew Tieman added 10 points and six assists for the Saints (2-6) in a nonconference win.

Fremd 44, Huntley 33: At Palatine, Bryce Only scored 12 points for the Red Raiders (4-2, 0-0) in a nonconference loss. Dan Janus added six points, and TJ Adams scored 5.


Marengo 3,001, Rockford Christian 2,347: At Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Susan Anthony’s 664 was a series high for Marengo which included her top-game of 256. Teammate Dominique Bailey contributed another 600 series, bowling a 609.
