MACHESNEY PARK – Crystal Lake Central’s Andrew Marsden placed fourth at 170 pounds Sunday at the Al Dvorak Memorial Wrestling Invitational at Harlem.
Marsden lost in the third-place match to Lincoln-Way Central’s Bryce Gorman, 5-4. In the quarterfinals, Marsden had pinned Gorman in 1:38.
Marsden lost in the semifinals to eventual winner Dan Rowland from Willowbrook. Rowland is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A by illinoismatmen.com. Marsden is ranked No. 4 in 2A at 160.
Also for the Tigers, Kyle Fugiel took fifth at 145. In the fifth-place match, Fugiel decisioned Marmion’s Trace Carello, 2-0. Central’s Mike Zelasco defeated Robbie Rodgers from St. Edward, Ohio, 7-2, to place seventh at 160.
Crystal Lake South’s Nick Gil finished fifth at 126, defeating Iowa City (Iowa) West’s Chris Walters, 3-1, in the fifth-place match.
Also for the Gators, Nick Peters placed eighth after losing to Dakota’s Carver James, 3-1.
The Tigers finished 19th as a team with 67 points and the Gators were 25th of 33 with 53. St. Edward dominated the team competition, placing seven wrestlers in the championship matches, and winning four, to take the title with 265.5 points.
