Prep roundup: C-G girls basketball continues hot streak

CARY – The Cary-Grove girls basketball team continued their hot streak Saturday afternoon with a 37-21 Fox Valley Conferece Valley Division win over McHenry.

The win marks the eighth in a row for the Trojans (17-6, 8-1).

Joslyn Nicholson led the way for C-G, scoring a game-high 13 points to go along with four steals. Katie Barker added nine points and Olivia Jakubicek scored five while grabbing 12 rebounds.

The Warriors (12-14, 4-6) were led by Greta Taylor, who scored a team-high five points while McKayla Snedeker and Alissa Rosga each added four.

Burlington Central 56, Richmond-Burton 34: At Richmond, Burlington Central sank the Rockets (11-11 overall, 6-3 Big Northern East Division) by connecting on 11 3-pointers.

The Rockets were led by Hannah Koenig, who scored 12 points while Alex Callanan and Samantha Tasker each added four.

Marian Central 47, Chicago Christian 38: At Palos Heights, the Hurricanes (13-8 overall, 5-3 Suburban Christain Blue Division) had just four players score points in the win.

Shannon Wuensch scored a game-high 20 points while Ellen Koscielniak had 14. Alissa Melchionna and Brie Baumert rounded out the scoring with 10 and three, respectively.

Huntley 56, Jacobs 21: At Huntley, the Red Raiders (19-4 overall, 9-1 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division) stayed atop the division with the win, which was powered by a strong performance from Sam Andrews, who scored a game-high 20 points. Her sister Ali added 16 and Rachel Zobott had six.

Payton Berg scored a team-high 10 points in the loss for Jacobs (2-19, 2-7 FVC Valley). Teammate Jannifer Barnec added three points.

Grayslake North 71, Woodstock 52: At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks were led by Cody Brandy who scored a team-high 17 points in the loss. Sami Ludwig added 10 for Woodstock (8-15 overall, 2-8 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division.)

Warren 37, Woodstock North 22: At Gurnee, The Thunder (14-19 overall, 5-6 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division) fell in a nonconference game to Warren and didn’t score a point in the first quarter.

Emma Everly led the Thunder with 10 points and Haley Ahr added four. Four other players had two points in the loss.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Harvard 45, Alden-Hebron 36: At Hebron, Justin Nolen led the Horntes (6-10) with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, with Tate Miller adding 10 points in the nonconference win.

Bryce Lalor led the Giants (8-11) with 15 points.

BOYS SWIMMING

Conant Cougar Classic: At Hoffman Estates, the Jacobs co-op swim team took fifth place with 120 points and Huntley took sixth with 81 points.

Francis Ogaban, Josh DeDina, Alex Reinbrecht and Caleb Knottnerus took second in the Class A 200-meter medley relay for Jacobs in 1:57.68.

The Red Raiders were led by a third-place finish in the Class A 200 medley relay, with Bryan Haage, Christopher Cazel, Ryan Czarnecki and Matthew Haage finishin in 1:59.00.
