The Northern Illinois Big Twelve Conference could be the league the Fox Valley Conference has targeted for a partnership for football crossover games by the 2014-15 school year.
Woodstock athletic director Glen Wilson said the FVC was looking for solutions to scheduling problems that arise when Johnsburg leaves for the Big Northern Conference in 2014-15.
“Inquiries for [prospective] members have been modest and slow,” Wilson said last week. “We're embarking on examining football arrangements with another conference. It would be like what we did a couple years ago with the Northern Illinois Big Twelve.”
It could, in fact, the Northern Illinois Big Twelve. Kaneland principal Chip Hickman told the Kane County Chronicle his conference had been talking to the FVC.
“Within the discussions of possible conference re-alignment, there have been a number of possibilities in which we have considered. The plans have included possible crossovers with the Fox Valley, as well as a proposal that included a football merger. All of these are in the brainstorming phase and all possibilities are contingent upon Northern Illinois Big 12 membership profile, which is unpredictable at this moment,” Hickman told the Chronicle.
The Northern Illinois Big Twelve had a previous crossover arrangement with the FVC when the FVC had unequal numbers in its two divisions. When Johnsburg leaves, the FVC will have seven teams in the FVC Valley Division and six in the FVC Fox.
