Grundy selected by Texas in 46th round

Johnsburg senior pitcher Jerad Grundy was selected in the 46th round of Major League Baseball's Amateur Draft Thursday.

Grundy, a 6-foot lefthander who posted a 4-6 record with a 1.38 ERA, was heavily scouted this spring by major league teams, often drawing more than 10 scouts at a time. Skyhawks coach Dann Giesey thought Grundy might be picked in the top five rounds with all the attention, but since Grundy also signed with Miami (Fla.) there were issues about whether the team that drafted him would be able to sign him.

With the 46th pick, Texas likely will not offer enough bonus money for Grundy to consider passing on Miami, an NCAA powerhouse.
