Lots of teams still alive

The Rant could not be more proud of our local teams in both volleyball and football. The fact that so many of ‘em are still playin’ says a lot about the level of play in this county and the hard work they put in.

The Rant has got to start off with our three state-bound volleyball teams. Harvard, CL Central and Cary-Grove will all be in Normal this weekend playin’ for a state title. That is a great accomplishment for these programs and these girls, and The Rant just wants to tell them all good luck and have fun.

There’s a lot of talk about the best sports around these here parts and if The Rant and the rest of us are bein’ honest we just might have to put volleyball at No. 1. I know many of The Rant’s loyal fans might be surprised to hear that, but based on the number of players that go D-1 and the number of teams that make the state tournament it’s hard to argue.

Gettin’ back to football, The Rant says two teams go to state. The Rant knows that the teams are takin’ one game at a time, but The Rant is makin’ reservations down state because Richmond-Burton and Cary-Grove are gonna be playin’ on the big stage on the weekend of the Turkey.

Either way to still have five teams playin’ in the quarterfinals is awesome. No matter what happens there is still a lot of good football left.

The MCS Game of the Week is Richmond-Burton at The Burg. Many people do not think a BNC team can beat a FVC team. The Rant says don’t count those chickens just yet, the way the Rocket is playin’ they could have won the Fox. Yet the Skyhawks scorin’ just 16 points in last two games might mean its time for a big game.

The Grove will be favorites Saturday against De La Salle, but they will have to stop No. 1, WR/DB D.J. Bland. This kid is real good and is fun to watch, he had four TDs against Central. The only problem for the Meteors will be stoppin’ the option, and that is one big problem.

The Streaks are gonna have a tough game against Glenbard South but The Rant thinks that if they can get off to a quick start they can advance. You can only play from behind so many games before it jumps up and bites ya.

The Rant thinks that The Ridge will continue to roll over Belvidere North, settin’ up a meetin’ with The Grove in the semifinals. They should have a lot of momentum after last week.

The Rant’s just wonderin’ here – could R-B have won the FVC Fox Division this season?
