The Rant’s talkin’ football
The Rant tried to focus on things other than football, but that’s kind of like askin’ Flipper not to swim.
Let’s do a little catchin’ up on the local pigskin scene. First off, the area has lost three football coaches to this point and there could be more. Dean Schlueter is out at Jacobs, Steve Graves left Huntley and Jon McLaughlin stepped down at CL Community.
That means we will be welcomin’ three new coaches before long. Jacobs and Huntley need someone who can lead them into the future of the FVC Valley Division. That means they need a coach that is ready for the challenge of findin’ out how to beat Cary-Grove and Crystal Lake South and start playin’ in their world. The Tigers need a coach that can help them build on their recent success and can lead them to the top of the mountain.
Do you have any ideas on who could fill those three coachin’ spots?
The Rant is feelin’ real good about McHenry County football because of some of our other local athletes makin’ headlines.
The Rant, like many of you, has been followin’ Marian Central grad Bryan Bulaga’s incredible story this winter because ya can’t write it any better. The man-child that used to pancake kids on the Hurricanes’ field is all grown up and ready to enter the NFL. Bulaga has had a amazin’ college career at Iowa and will now go where so few get to play.
The Rant remembers watchin’ him and thinkin’ that this is somebody who could make it all the way some day, but even The Rant would not have dreamed he would be a projected first round draft pick in the NFL. The Rant wishes Bulaga luck and thanks him for showin’ all of us what is possible.
The Rant knows that people like it when good things happen to good people and this is exactly the case here. Bulaga will make us all proud because of what he accomplishes on the field but also because his character and work ethic is as solid as his game.
C.J. Fiedorowicz played his final high school football game Saturday as tight end for the East squad in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antone.
The only other player from the area ever to play in this prestigious game is Marian Central DE Sean Cwynar, who now plays at Notre Dame.
Fiedorowicz will play at Iowa next fall.
The Rant would also like to congratulate McHenry DE/FB Jake Howe, who will play for Illinois next fall. They project him as either a FB or a TE. The Rant is happy that all your hard work has paid off.
What do you think about all these local football players makin’ big news?
