South wins wrasslin' title

The Rant heard that the atmosphere in McHenry for the CL South vs. Mac Town wrestlin’ match that basically decided who would won the FVC Valley Division crown was awesome.

In true championship fashion, the meet came down to the final match with the Warriors leadin’, 27-26. The Gators’ Mark Mohler pinned his opponent and South wins the Valley in a dramatic finish. The Gators still have to beat Huntley on friday to win it outright.

The Rant thinks that if all wrestlin’ was that excitin’, that there would be a lot more wrestlin’ fans.

By the way, the Tigers from Crystal Lake Old are the champs on the other side of the FVC. No surprise there.

It’s back to the drawin’ board for The Burg. The boys basketball team lost their first big test of the season to Grayslake Old and lost the FVC Fox Division lead as well. It was a good game, but if the Skyhawks want any chance of redemption in the rematch Feb. 12, they will have to pick up the intensity.

For now, the Rams stand the at the top of the Fox and as long as one of these teams doesn’t get upset by another team in the division that showdown on Feb. 12th should be one of the best games of the season.

Over in the Valley Division, The Grove took it to Mac Town and caused a jam at the top of the standings with the middle child of the Crystal Lake schools, CL South, leadin’ the pack.

Mac Town, The Grove and Huntley all have one loss and still have a good shot at makin’ it to the top of the division if they can get on a roll.
