McCarron commits to D-III national champions
Cary-Grove senior Chad McCarron will go from a state champion to a national champion for football next season.
McCarron, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver-defensive back on the Trojans' Class 6A state champion, committed to NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater to play football. The Warhawks won the D-III national championship last season.
McCarron caught 21 passes for 413 yards and eight touchdowns for the Trojans, who finished 14-0 and defeated Providence Catholic, 34-17, in the state title game.
McCarron played more on defense as the playoffs progressed and had a key interception in the second half of the championship game. He picked off a pass in the end zone as Providence trailed, 20-17, and C-G scored on the ensuing drive.
