Three girls teams advance to sectionals

The Rant would like to congratulate the three girls basketball teams that advanced to the sectionals with wins on Thursday night.

The Shire, The Grove and The Burg all move on to the next round where the competition should get a little tougher. The Rant is just waitin’ for that possible match-up between the Whip-Purs and the Skyhawks in the supersectional. But they both have a couple more games to win before that happens.

It took overtime for the Trojans to pull out the win over Streamwood, while the Whip-Purs and the Skyhawks cruised to wins against DeKalb and Antioch, respectively.

We will definitely have one more team advance to the sectionals with CL Community and The Ridge playin’ each other Friday night for a regional title.

Jacobs lost in double overtime to Hononegah, but they had a big season and accomplished a lot. Marengo season also came to an end with a loss to Freeport.

Also, The Rant wanted to say that he was pretty impressed with the fans at the C-G vs. Streamwood game on Friday night.

Too bad they were cheerin’ for the Sabres.

Rant can’t understand why the home bleachers at Elroy Fitzgerald Gymnasium seemed like the library, but they did. An’ this ain’t the first time Rant’s had to wonder if he took a wrong turn and ended up in church by mistake.

C’mon C-G fans ... it’s OK to make noise when the visitin’ team shoots free-throws, even if the announcer seems to be shushing you.

Last time Rant checked a map, Streamwood’s about a 40 minute drive from Cary. Ain’t no reason that they shoulda had a louder crowd at C-G’s own place in a regional championship game.

An’ another thing ... Rant’s had enough of the gimmicky “there’s a timeout ... on the floor” at basketball games.

A. That’s a Bears thing. The Bears play football, not basketball.

B. When they do it, it’s cute – at first. When the sideline announcer at a prep hoops game does it over an’ over again – not so much. Come up with yer own shtick, please, announcer types!
