Huntley finishes fourth in Class 4A
The weather at Joliet's Silver Cross Field continued to be uncooperative and the IHSA Class 4A State Tournament third-place game between Stevenson and Huntley was called after three innings. Stevenson was declared the winner, 5-0, with pitcher Kyle Ruchim throwing a perfect game.
The IHSA already had planned for third-place games in Class 3A and 4A to be five innings because of the forecasts for rain. At 3:42, the game was suspended and the tarp was placed on the infield. An hour later, it was declared an official game and the IHSA waited for a pocket of good enough weather to get Chicago St. Rita and Naperville Central on the field for the championship game.
Stevenson (35-4) scored two in the first on Patrick Wilson's two-run homer and added three in the second inning. Ruchim, a senior who will play at Northwestern, was hitting the high 80s on the speed gun and was very tough, striking out four of the nine batters he faced.
Huntley (29-11) was making its first state tournament appearance and won the second-most games in school history.
