Prep season comes to a close
After a crazy weekend of state playoff baseball it's time to take a little summer break.
Both Huntley and Marian Central lost their semifinal games on Friday. The Red Raiders fell to St. Rita 7-6 on a bases loaded two-out hit that scored the winnin' run in the bottom of the seventh innin'.
The 'Canes were part of a bizarre first innin' against DeKalb, in which the Barbs left fielder and short stop collided and had to be taken off the field on stretchers. Marian had two runs after the collision but lost one of them when an appeal to second base produced a out after the ump said the player missed the bag.
They did not score after that first inning and lost 6-1.
Marian came back in grand style with a third place win over Joliet Catholic on Saturday, while Huntley is losing to Stevenson 5-0 in their third place game with a couple innings left.
The Rant would like to congratulate all the local prep athletes and teams for a great year. The Rant is off to fire up the grill and play some lawn jarts, while he thinks of football startin' in a couple months.
