Lachel, Widmayer honored by IHSA

Bud Lachel and John Widmayer, both of whom have been instrumental in the McHenry County area sports scene, were given Distinguished Service Awards by the IHSA Monday night in Bloomington.

Lachel, of Dundee, has coached boys tennis at Cary-Grove since 1969 and coached the girls team since 1974. He also works as official scorekeeper at C-G boys and girls basketball games and has donated his time to the IHSA girls state tournaments for 21 years. He also worked two boys tournaments before that.

Lachel also has served on the IHSA boys and girls tennis seeding committee for about 30 years.

This is the fourth year the IHSA has given Distinguished Service Awards, 12 are given each year.

Widmayer, of Woodstock, has officiated football, basketball and softball and has worked nine state finals, three in girls basketball, three in football and three in softball.

Widmayer has worked at the IHSA Girls State Basketball Tournament as a bench official and timer since 1992. He also served on the IHSA football advisory committee from 1991-94.
