Jacobs' Albano takes offer from D-II Lewis
The amazing baseball season that Jacobs left fielder Ben Albano turned in this spring had the effect he hoped it would.
Albano, the Northwest Herald Player of the Year, accepted a late scholarship offer from NCAA Division II Lewis University in Romeoville and will play baseball on athletic and academic scholarships for the Flyers.
Albano was set to attend D-III Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and play football and baseball. Albano put up staggering numbers with a .533 batting average, 16 home runs and 67 RBIs, and former Golden Eagles coach Eric Sanders, in midseason, started contacting D-I and D-II coaches about looking at Albano.
Albano received an invitation to a White Sox Area Code tryout two weeks ago and Lewis coach Tim McDonough saw him there and made the offer.
