Size vs. speed

The Rant has been deep in thought and is tryin’ to figure out which is better in high school football, size or speed?

The Rant thinks that speed might let ya do a little more on the field and allows for more big plays. But size and strength are nice to have when you want to run the ball, when weather conditions are a factor, when protectin’ a lead, or helpin’ to eat the clock and keep the defense off the field.

The Rant will bet ya that CL South will have one of the biggest lines in the state this season, averagin’ about 260 pounds. Yet, The Rant thinks of the C-G offensive and defensive lines in the past few years, and they were not huge, but they got the job done with speed and technique.

So which is better?

There are so many factors that there is probably no right or wrong answer, but The Rant would probably take speed first at the high school level. That said, this might be the season where the size of the Gators wins out.
