A wild Week 2

Looks like fer now it’s advantage Prairie Ridge in the FVC Little Division.

That was a pretty convincin’ win for the Wolves on enemy turf against a ranked opponent in Crystal Lake Central on Friday night. The Rant knows the Wolves were lookin’ ahead to this game as soon as the siren sounded after Week 1 against Woodstock, and they were ready. Central, on the other hand, kinda shot themselves in the foot all night, with 12 penalties for 122 yards.

Speakin’ of bein’ ready, Rant wants to say nice job to the Trojans. Yeah, ya didn’t win boys, but you put up a good fight against a tough Lake Zurich team. Through two weeks, the 'D' looks solid for the defending 6A champs, and if the Trojans get their offense clickin’ some as the weeks go along, they’re gonna be all right.

Then there’s the boys from MacTown, who have the opposite problem. Puttin’ up 49 points is great ... but allowin’ 62 kinda takes the shine off. Rant hopes the next time the Warriors approach 50 points in a game, they come away with a ‘W.’

Meanwhile, CL South survived a scare against Bartlett but kept its undefeated season alive with a clutch stop on a 2-point conversion pass play. Whew! Nothin’ wrong with playin’ close games, especially if ya win ‘em. Pressure situations during the regular season getcha ready for the playoffs, after all. The Rant says the Gators shouldn’t take Grayslake Central lightly next week. The Rams ain’t pushovers this year.

Props to Woodstock for turnin’ it around after a 55-0 loss against the Wolves last week an' notchin' a 24-21 win against Grayslake North. The Rant loves a team that shows Heart ...

And R-B ... well, they just keep rollin’ along. Kudos to Brandon Kinsella, who picked up 112 yards on six carries in R-B’s 47-7 rout of Mendota (where’s IS that, anyway?). That comes out to, let’s see, carry the one, bite a doughnut ... 18.7 yards a carry. That’ll tire ya out.

How about Jacobs? If ya saw the Webcast online here, ya saw that the Eagles look little like the Eagles of the past couple of seasons. Rant likes what he’s seen so far, but he’s gonna withhold judgment until he sees what they bring to the tilt at Prairie Ridge that’s loomin' in Week 3.

What do you all think after Week 2?
