CLC goes 3-0 to win Harvard tourney

HARVARD – Crystal Lake Central allowed Round Lake only one basket Saturday, as the girls basketball team played smothering defense to roll to a 48-5 win at the Harvard Pre-Turkey Tournament.

With the victory, the Tigers (3-0) finished as unbeaten champs in the round-robin tourney.

Evelyn Youel scored a team-high 10 points among Central’s eight scorers, and Paige Dowell added eight points.

Central topped Genoa-Kingston earlier in the day, 35-30.

Harvard was led by Karina Villasenor, who scored 14 points in their 46-27 loss to Genoa-Kingston.

The Hornets also lost to Rockford East, 43-36, to finish 0-3 in the tournament.

Cougar Classic: At Libertyville, Haylee Nutter scored a team-high 19 points, and Kaitlin Chamberlain (14) joined her in double digits as Woodstock North (2-0) jumped out to a 20-point lead over Maine East at halftime and held on for a 46-33 win.

Burlington Central Tournament: At Burlington, Jessica Villie scored 29 points in two games as Marengo topped Harlem, 59-54, and lost to Belvidere North, 56-34.

Amber Fillmore scored 15 points on the day for the Indians (2-1).

Woodstock used balanced scoring to win both of their games. The Blue Streaks (3-0) edged Burlington Central, 45-42, and beat Larkin, 51-42.

Sami Ludwig scored 22 points for Woodstock, which looked to eight different scorers on the day.

Waubonsie Valley Tournament: At Aurora, Abbey Shaw put up a team-high 14 points, and Haley Ream pulled down a team-high six rebounds as Huntley rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to top Naperville North, 51-46.

Sam Andrews scored nine points for the Red Raiders (1-1).

Dundee-Crown Tournament: At Carpentersville, Brittany Avonts scored 23 points for McHenry (3-0) as the Warriors picked up wins against Hampshire, 45-42, and Streamwood, 57-43.

Carlin Faulkner scored 14 points, seven in the first quarter, for Dundee-Crown (0-2), but the Chargers couldn’t hold off Hononegah, which won, 73-37.

Faulkner was supported by a 10-point outing from Ali Sanders.
