R-B wins game, tournament

WOODSTOCK – Erin Thomas opened the new season in style at the Marian Central Thanksgiving Tournament. Thomas poured in a game-high 15 points to lead Richmond-Burton past Wauconda, 44-28, in the final game of the tournament Tuesday night. The 5-foot-6 senior guard also took home tourney MVP honors.

April Wanagas added 14 with four three-pointers as the Rockets finished 4-0 to win the tournament. R-B’s Alex Callanan, who scored three points against the Bulldogs, also was selected to the all-tournament team.

In other action, Marian Central defeated Belvidere, 51-46. Shannon Wuensch finished with a game-high 21 points to lead the Hurricanes (2-1). Wuensch picked up all-tournament honors for the second-place hosts. Marian’s Constance Melchionna chipped in with nine points.

Cary-Grove 55, Lakes 42: At Lake Zurich, Paige Lincicum poured in 17 points to push Cary-Grove past Lakes at the Lake Zurich Thanksgiving Tournament. Olivia Jakubicek added 13 points for the Trojans (1-2).

Boys Basketball

Johnsburg 48, Marengo 44: At Johnsburg, Mike Ward ended up with a game-high 15 points to lead the hosts Skyhawks (1-0) to a season-opening win over Marengo at the Johnsburg Thanksgiving Tournament.
Zach Lundquist finished with 14 points to pace the Indians (0-1).

Rockford Jefferson 86, Richmond-Burton 31: At Richmond, Rockford Jefferson outscored the short-handed Rockets, 27-5, in the third quarter on the way to an easy win in the season opener.

Girls Bowling

Marengo 3,193, Huntley 2,437: At Glo-Bowl in Marengo, Becca Czlapinski rolled a 613 series to lead Marengo past Huntley. Krystal Alt added a 533 for the Indians (1-0).
Amy Antezak led the Red Raiders with a 474.

Wrestling

Marengo splits tri-meet: At Marengo, the host Indians defeated Winnebago, 39-30, and fell to Burlington Central, 46-27, in the season opener.
Cory Graham, Johnny Lesiak, Colin Kelly and Abe Lamontagne each won two matches to lead Marengo (1-1).
