The Wolves' catcher came through with RBIs in the first inning of both games against Cary-Grove as Prairie Ridge won two games to grab a share of the FVC Valley Division. Krenz doubled in the first inning of Monday’s game to score Nick Samuels from first base. PR won, 2-0. Krenz added a double later in that game. On Wednesday, Krenz hit the first pitch he saw from C-G’s Ryan Kaveney for a home run. Krenz also had an infield single later in the game. PR won its last six FVC Valley games to tie with CL South for the division title.

E.J. Trapino

The Rockets’ ace left-hander was fantastic Wednesday against Burlington Central in a 4-0 complete-game victory that tied R-B for a share of first place in the BNC East Division with one remaining game. Trapino battled some control problems, walking seven, but left the bases loaded in four innings, including the seventh. Trapino struck out 13 and allowed six hits, finishing the game with 140 pitches. Trapino also celebrated his 18th birthday with a double and triple in the fifth and sixth innings. Trapino has allowed two earned runs this season and is 11-0.

Freshman Haley Spannraft fired a one-hit shutout Thursday against Dundee-Crown in a 7-0 win for the Red Raiders. It was the fourth win of the season for the freshman pitcher and the first FVC Valley win of the season for Huntley. Spannraft was also the tough-luck loser Tuesday in a 6-4, extra-innings loss to Crystal Lake South. She held the Gators to four runs over seven innings, but South scored two in the ninth to win it.

Jordan Getzelman

Jordan Getzelman has been on a tear recently, going 13 for 18 with 16 RBIs in his past six games as the Wolves went 5-1. The junior's hot hitting helped Prairie Ridge to the top of the FVC Valley Division with one loss. In the Wolves’ 12-4 victory against D-C on Tuesday, Getzelman had two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. He was a few inches from three homers and eight RBIs as both doubles hit off the top of the fence. He came back Thursday in a 13-5 win against D-C and was 3 for 3 with two homers and four RBIs. He had five doubles, two homers and scored nine runs in those five games as Prairie Ridge beat Huntley twice, D-C twice and Hampshire once. The Wolves’ only loss of the week came in a nonconference game against Mundelein.

Zach Marszal

Zach Marszal had seven hits in the Trojans' last four games, all Fox Valley Conference wins, as C-G remained unbeaten in the FVC Valley Division. Marszal was 1 for 2 with a double and three RBIs as C-G defeated Woodstock, 7-1, April 12. On Friday, he was 3 for 3 with a double as the Trojans defeated Woodstock North, 17-5. Marszal was 2 for 4 with an RBI in Saturday’s 9-6 victory over Grayslake North, then was 1 for 3 with a double in Tuesday’s 13-0 win against Johnsburg.

The Hurricanes' catcher came through in a couple of big Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division victories this week against Marmion and Aurora Central. Hickey was 3 for 4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs in Marian’s 10-6 win against Marmion on Monday. He also was 2 for 3 with a double, triple and two RBIs as the Hurricanes beat ACC, 4-1, on Wednesday to improve to 2-1 in the division.

Jordan Van Dyck

South's Jordan Van Dyck had two outstanding pitching performances in the past week, raising his record to 4-0 with victories over Harlem and Marian Central. He had his best pitching outing Friday against Harlem in a 3-1 win. He struck out 11 and allowed two hits and no walks. Against Marian on Wednesday, Van Dyck allowed seven hits and an earned run, while striking out six in a 7-1 victory. His ERA is 0.66. He also contributes at shortstop and bats cleanup for the Gators. He was 3 for 4 and scored three times in South’s 5-1 victory over Deerfield on Saturday. He was 2 for 4 in Tuesday’s 8-3 win against Hoffman Estates. In the win at Marian, Van Dyck had an RBI triple in the first inning.

Kevin Maher

Kevin Maher is 2-0 with 20 strikeouts and has allowed four hits in his two starts for the Warriors this season. Maher struck out 10 and allowed four hits against Marian Central on Wednesday in a 1-0 victory. He battled the Hurricanes’ Ian Maxiener, another of the area’s top pitchers, in that game. Maher fired a no-hitter March 22 to beat Waukegan, 4-1. He also struck out 10 in that game and the only Bulldogs’ runner to reach base came on his own throwing error. Maher has not allowed an earned run in 14 innings.

McHenry senior forward Robert Tonyan led his team with 13 points and 11 rebounds in their loss to Elgin in the D-C Sectional Semifinal. He also had 16 points in each of their regional wins.

Richmond-Burton's Matt Rygiel turned in a remarkable performance Wednesday as the Rockets defeated Marian Central, 40-36, in the IHSA Class 3A Johnsburg Regional. The 6-foot-5 forward scored 27 points on 11 of 18 shooting from the field. In one stretch, starting late in the third quarter, Rygiel outscored Marian Central, 13-0. R-B went from trailing, 31-20, to leading 33-31 during that stretch. Rygiel also scored 10 points Friday in R-B’s 46-40 victory against Burlington Central. That win gave R-B the outright Big Northern Conference East Division title, the Rockets’ third division championship in four years.

Dan Stott

Harvard's Dan Stott wrestled a match for the ages in the 170-pound Class 1A championship at the IHSA Individual State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, and his pin in 8:15 was the latest pin in state history for any class. After placing the past two seasons at state, Stott (44-3) broke through to get a title during his senior year.

Huntley's 6-foot-61⁄2 sophomore forward Amanze Egekeze dropped in 18 points as the Red Raiders edged Dundee-Crown, 41-40, on Saturday to clinch a share of the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division title. Egekeze came back with 16 in Tuesday’s 57-45 victory over Jacobs that assured the Raiders would repeat as outright division champions.

The Rockets Brett O’Kane won the Antioch Regional at 160 pounds with a 9-4 decision against Lakes' David Gregory. Gregory is ranked fourth in Class 2A at 160 by illinoismatmen.com and O'Kane (22-6) is eighth.

Crystal Lake Central senior Gage Harrah pinned Grant’s Quinton Quarles on Saturday to improve his record to 31-1. Quarles is the No. 6-ranked wrestler at 220 pounds in Class 3A by Illinoismatmen.com. Harrah is the top-ranked wrestler at 195 in 2A.

Dundee-Crown senior guard Brandon Rodriguez helped the Chargers win their first three Fox Valley Conference Valley Division games the past week against Jacobs, Prairie Ridge and McHenry. Rodriguez scored 10 points Saturday in D-C’s 49-38 victory against Jacobs. He came back and dropped in 19 against Prairie Ridge on Tuesday in the Chargers’ 51-40 win. Rodriguez also led the Chargers with 20 points and hit the game-winning shot in their 48-43 victory against McHenry Friday night..

Dundee-Crown's Diamond Williams came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points in the Chargers 44-41 win against Huntley. The senior also had 11 rebounds to help keep the Chargers undefeated in the FVC Valley Division. She followed that with 14 points in a non-conference win against Fenton.

Zack Lundquist had another all-around strong game Friday night at Genoa-Kingston, although the Indians lost to the Cogs, 56-51, in their Big Northern Conference East Division game. Lundquist scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out four assists. Marengo (3-6) had a five-point lead slip away in that game in the final 2 minutes. Lundquist, a 6-foot-2 forward playing his third varsity season, scored 14 points in Wednesday’s 57-53 loss at Crystal Lake South. He also had a 27-point game earlier in the season against Burlington Central.

The Wolves' Zach Synon won the 126-pound weight class at the Carson DeJarnett Invitational on Saturday at Sterling. In the championship match, Synon defeated Belvidere North’s Erik Nord, 1-0. Nord is ranked No. 4 at 126 in Class 2A by illinoismatmen.com.

Richmond-Burton set the Class 4A championship game record with 514 rushing yards. Fullback Jack Dechow also set the 4A title game record with 244 yards rushing and added four touchdowns, including a 68-yard run.
