CARY – Beth Hughes and Arley Bayer went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles Saturday at the Cary-Grove Invitational in a tuneup for the postseason tournaments.
BARTLETT– The Jacobs volleyball team won its first match of the season Tuesday, defeating Bartlett, 25-18, 25-19.
Cary-Grove’s Chris Federighi did not have the kind of tennis season he wanted, but the result still was impressive and a satisfying capstone to his high school career.
HAMPSHIRE – Third-seeded Hampshire’s Shane Hernandez threw a three-hit shutout to lead the Whip-Purs to a 2-0 victory against second-seeded Burlington Central on Friday in an IHSA Class 3A Hampshire Regional semifinal.
Area boys tennis players battled the cold, wind and a few top-seeded players Thursday in the opening round of the IHSA State Tournament.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake Central had more state qualifiers, but Prairie Ridge came away with the team championship at the IHSA Cary-Grove Boys Tennis Sectional on Saturday.
GURNEE – McHenry’s No. 1 doubles team, Dave Robinson and Jake Romme, qualified for the IHSA Boys Tennis State Tournament and defeated a pair from Grant, 7-6, 6-0, for third place Saturday at the Gurnee Warren sectional.

CARY – With her sixth strikeout Monday, Cary-Grove sophomore pitcher Lindsay Efflandt reached 200 for the season, leading the Trojans to a 3-0 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division victory against Crystal Lake South.

POPLAR GROVE – E.J. Trapino barely needed a defense behind him Tuesday. The Richmond-Burton junior struck out 18 in an 8-0, no-hit victory against North Boone in a Big Northern Conference East Division baseball game.
ALGONQUIN – McHenry senior Joe Feilen (5-1) continued an impressive stretch of personal and team success Monday, throwing a no-hitter against Jacobs in a 5-0 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win.
GENOA – Buddy Lasker had a toss of 139 feet in the discus, Matt Smith recorded a 20-11⁄2 long jump, and David Martinez finished the 300 intermediate hurdles in 42.39 seconds Saturday to win their events and set personal bests for the season for Harvard at the Genoa-Kingston Invitational.
MARENGO – Chloe Montgomery picked up her fifth win this week, giving up four hits and an earned run to help Marengo’s softball team beat Antioch, 4-1, in a non-conference game.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Zack Coel had his best start of the season for Prairie Ridge’s baseball team Wednesday. Coel struck out 10 and threw a five-inning no-hitter for the Wolves in a 14-0 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division win against Woodstock North.
CRYSTAL LAKE – The Fox Valley Conference boys tennis season still has a ways to go, but Prairie Ridge coach Sam Sweeney already is thinking about his sectional lineup.

MARENGO – After giving up three sixth-inning runs in relief, Harvard pitcher Collin Nolen redeemed himself Tuesday when he led off in the seventh inning of the Hornets’ tied ballgame against Marengo.
CARPENTERSVILLE – After losing to Grayslake Central, 22-2, on Saturday, Dundee-Crown bounced back Tuesday to defeat the Rams, 3-2, in Fox Valley Conference baseball action.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake South continued to roll in boys tennis, winning its own eight-team invitational Saturday.
CRYSTAL LAKE– Crystal Lake Central’s Taylor Ward and Sara McConnell combined to pitch a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 Fox Valley Conference Fox Division softball victory against Grayslake Central on Wednesday.

WOODSTOCK – Lincoln Herendeen was in control on the mound for Marian Central on Monday, striking out 14 and walking only one Marengo batter to pace the Hurricanes in a 2-0 non-conference victory.
CARY – Something strange happened in the opener of a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division baseball doubleheader between McHenry and Cary-Grove on Saturday.
MARENGO – Tyler Crater pitched all eight innings and drove in three runs for Hampshire in a 3-2 Big Northern Conference East Division baseball win against Marengo on Thursday.
HAMPSHIRE – Moving Aaron Waters into doubles was an easy decision for Marian Central boys tennis coach Jim Sarthers, and the move might pay big dividends as the season progresses.
HUNTLEY – Huntley freshman Ashley Laxner drove in the game-winning run on a single in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday in the Red Raiders’ 2-1 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Crystal Lake South.

WINNEBAGO – Dan Bach, David Sparks, Xavier Alva and Alex Kick took first in the 3,200-meter relay, finishing with a time of 8:50.44 to help Harvard take third-place at the Winnebago Invitational.
CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry’s Carey Nolan won the 100- and 400-meter dashes and the triple jump as the Warriors scored 131 points to win Prairie Ridge’s quadrangular meet between Fox Valley Conference boys track teams Monday.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake Central scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th Saturday to take the first game of a doubleheader against Crystal Lake South, 10-9.
WOODSTOCK – Marian Central first baseman Mitch Ennis played the hero Wednesday, going 4 for 4 from the plate with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second to help the Hurricanes beat Boylan, 11-7, in non-conference play.
ROCKFORD – Matt Calvello earned his first win of the season Monday, pitching a complete game for Hampshire’s baseball team in a 6-2 non-conference win against Harlem.
WOODSTOCK – Dundee-Crown’s Joe Aschacher and Alex Gonzalez made the move from singles to doubles this season and so far are happy with their partnership.
LAKE VILLA – Zack Miller pitched four solid innings for Johnsburg, holding Lakes to one run before giving up a home run in the fifth that turned the tide in Monday’s non-conference game.
