WINNETKA – It wasn’t likely her cap or goggles, but Marisa Barton wasn’t taking any chances at the IHSA Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals on Saturday.
WINNETKA – Crystal Lake Central’s Marisa Barton stood in back of the blocks after the 50-yard freestyle and stared at the scoreboard, waiting for the final results to be posted at the preliminaries of the IHSA Girls Swimming State Finals on Friday.
Crystal Lake Central will end a six-year drought among local schools Friday when its 200-yard freestyle relay team competes at the IHSA Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals.

With the girls swimming regular season winding down this week, Crystal Lake Central has emerged as the team to beat heading into the Fox Valley Conference meet Nov. 5 at Woodstock North.
McHENRY – Marisa Barton led Crystal Lake Central to a 105-65 Fox Valley Conference swimming victory against McHenry on Thursday with first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.85) and 100 freestyle (55.54).
Local girls swimmers turned in some solid performances at the Gurnee Warren Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday.
Swimming certainly isn’t a low priority at the Hersey Jamboree, but it may run a close second to the fun.
McHENRY – Cary-Grove defeated McHenry, 87-83, in a Fox Valley Conference girls swimming dual on Thursday.
Add Marengo to the list of area schools with girls swimming programs.
CARPENTERSVILLE – Jacobs displayed its team strength at the Dundee-Crown girls swimming triangular by defeating Huntley and the host Chargers.
CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake Central’s volleyball team found its rhythm early Tuesday, beating Hampshire, 25-14, 25-8, in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division match.
The IHSA recently announced sectional assignments for girls swimming, and the area’s seven teams will be divided between three sites.
HARVARD – Only two strokes separated Woodstock’s top four golfers in a 163-167 non-conference victory against Marian Central on Wednesday at Plum Tree National.
Jacobs established itself as the girls swimming team to beat in the Fox Valley Conference with Saturday’s performance at the Woodstock Invitational.

The girls swimming season gets going in earnest this week, but all goals and aspirations are focused on two months from now and the end-of-season meets.
ANTIOCH – Richmond-Burton’s girls cross country team won the Pat Harland Invitational on Thursday, placing four runners in the top 10.
